- Savio Zacharia

If you thought you’ve seen the last of Himesh Reshammiya with ‘Aap Ka Suroor’ and ‘Karzz’ ; he’s back with ‘Radio’ this week and a few more releases in month’s to come.

Let’s get it straight every Himesh film purely rides on the music quotient; so be clear what you in the theatres for- a concert experience or a movie?

With all due respect, this Himesh flick is highly complicated divided into over 15 chapters with weird titles such as ‘Paranjabi Lassi’, ‘Mutter mein keeda’ , ‘ Denial mode ‘ etc .Each chapter is stamped with the tag ‘IT’S COMPLICATED’ and the overdoing of these chapters give you the constipated feel.

The basic premise of the story is pretty good- An RJ Vivan , known for solving others problems has no solution for his own divorce(with Sonal Sehgal) and is scared of having any further relationships. As he rightly quotes “ judge ka hathoda mere dimaag pe pada”. Until he encounters Shenaaz Treasurywala and her crazy family.

But what fails miserably is the execution! Above all, a bunch of non -performing actors and the biggest glitch being Himesh himself. The lad is pretty bad at dialogues and the close-ups make him look worse.

The leading ladies too hardly express. Sonal Sehgal seems highly eccentric and her shoddy lines such as the one she delivers when drunk at 3am in the morning ,are absolutely lame.

Shenaaz Treasurywala is better off but emphasis is laid only on her close up smiles (which getting annoying after a period) rather than her dialogues.

Major chunks of the film you’re left with wondering what’s going on ? Seeing the trio hang out together , break plates in a restaurant etc…..more than complicated .

The dialogues of the movie area major let down .

The radio station and the characters such as the boss played by Rajesh Khattar in a wheel chair are so unreal.

You may consider shooting Paresh Rawal as his Jhandu Lal jokes literally damge your brain.

Music by Himesh Reshammiya is the only part that works for this film. Indeed there are quite a few songs which the audience is well versed with as the music has released over months ago and has been doing pretty well for itself. ‘Teri meri dosti’ and ‘Rafa Daffa’ are sure to stick with you even as you leave disappointed.

For Himesh , having covered up major portions of the cost through music itself , the theatres, overseas and satellite rights come as bonus.

A complete let down !

Rating: 1/5
