Rocket Singh – Misses his sales target completely

No doubt as a subject to tackle upon , Jaideep Sahni and Shimit Amin have fused in an interesting perspective of those employees frustrated in the world of sales to reach their targets. All the more , this duo has also been credited with Yash Raj Films blockbuster ‘ Chak De’ ; thus the expectations are even higher.
Considering the fact that the promos of the film have kept even the women of the film behind the veil , it’s very obvious that the producers are placing the gun on Ranbir Kapoor’s shoulders and striking out. Why not!
Especially when Mr.Kapoor has just given us a blockbuster few weeks ago with ‘Ajab Prem’. So why market the movie with anything else besides Rocket Ranbir Kapoor?
For starters the movie speaks of Harpreet Singh Bedi aka HP who just scrapes through Bcom. Since he claims to be extremely bad at numbers, he aspires to be a salesman and is soon found to be a trainee at A.Y.S.- a sales firm headed by Boss Mr.Puri and manager Nitin.
The rest of the movie is an insightful journey into the world of sales , the clients , the sales calls , the bribes …..etc
Now , Harpreet Singh Bedi is in a dilemma – whether to flow with the crowd or against them ?
Definitely interesting plot but not at all an interesting execution. In fact the screenplay runs dry.
No doubt Indian cinema has hardly done movies like Office space , Employee of the month etc thus ‘Rocket Singh’ is definitely something new but definitely for a niche audience and all the more when you expect it to be a fun ride , it moves in as a documentation of salesmanship.
The first half is extremely dull and the second has nothing much indeed.
Wonder why, day in and day out the office mates kept throwing rockets at Harpreet. Considering the kind of boss they had, I’m sure he wouldn’t want to see paper littered all around.
All that keeps you hooked on for a while are the various characters in the company like the office boy , hardware specialist , receptionist etc.
The dialogues too often lack impact and what amazes the viewer is how easily Nitin the bad-ass sales manager so easily melts down and joins the rocket gang…… not convincing!
The music too has nothing to offer and the movie runs in dry.
Ranbir Kapoor who spearheads the band wagon; for the opening 10 mins makes you feel like he walked in straight from ‘Wake up Sid’ but as the movie proceeds he does excel as the innocent salesman lost in the corrupt world of sales.
Gauhar Khan too impresses and above all the performances of Boss Puri and Nitin stand apart.
Sheshzan Padamsee is almost null and void in this flick.
Prem Chopra is barely ok.
Out and out a good thought gone bad….especially when you expect lots of fun from this one ; it turns out to be more like Albert and David Maysels 1968 documentary –Salesman.

Hey Savio u seem to have got too carried away by the ‘typical’ bollywood films which don’t have any sense or sensibility.
As far as i know it(RS) is a very well made film except for the paper rockets episode which even i found very silly and idiotic (it was very shocking to see the director like Shimit Okaying that episode) . You said this film was slow and boring, now you should have seen movies like ‘About Shmidt’ which is a very slow movie but got good reviews there( i liked it too). You can’t have a fast and slick pace for all the movies. Some subjects need slow pace according to the script. I think we need to have sensible movie watchers too apart from sensible directors and writers. I think its the story well told the way it should be.
