Rocket Singh – Misses his sales target completely

- Savio Zacharia

No doubt as a subject to tackle upon , Jaideep Sahni and Shimit Amin have fused in an interesting perspective of those employees frustrated in the world of sales to reach their targets. All the more , this duo has also been credited with Yash Raj Films blockbuster ‘ Chak De’ ; thus the expectations are even higher.

Considering the fact that the promos of the film have kept even the women of the film behind the veil , it’s very obvious that the producers are placing the gun on Ranbir Kapoor’s shoulders and striking out. Why not!

Especially when Mr.Kapoor has just given us a blockbuster few weeks ago with ‘Ajab Prem’. So why market the movie with anything else besides Rocket Ranbir Kapoor?

For starters the movie speaks of Harpreet Singh Bedi aka HP who just scrapes through Bcom. Since he claims to be extremely bad at numbers, he aspires to be a salesman and is soon found to be a trainee at A.Y.S.- a sales firm headed by Boss Mr.Puri and manager Nitin.

The rest of the movie is an insightful journey into the world of sales , the clients , the sales calls , the bribes …..etc

Now , Harpreet Singh Bedi is in a dilemma – whether to flow with the crowd or against them ?

Definitely interesting plot but not at all an interesting execution. In fact the screenplay runs dry.

No doubt Indian cinema has hardly done movies like Office space , Employee of the month etc thus ‘Rocket Singh’ is definitely something new but definitely for a niche audience and all the more when you expect it to be a fun ride , it moves in as a documentation of salesmanship.

The first half is extremely dull and the second has nothing much indeed.

Wonder why, day in and day out the office mates kept throwing rockets at Harpreet. Considering the kind of boss they had, I’m sure he wouldn’t want to see paper littered all around.

All that keeps you hooked on for a while are the various characters in the company like the office boy , hardware specialist , receptionist etc.

The dialogues too often lack impact and what amazes the viewer is how easily Nitin the bad-ass sales manager so easily melts down and joins the rocket gang…… not convincing!

The music too has nothing to offer and the movie runs in dry.

Ranbir Kapoor who spearheads the band wagon; for the opening 10 mins makes you feel like he walked in straight from ‘Wake up Sid’ but as the movie proceeds he does excel as the innocent salesman lost in the corrupt world of sales.

Gauhar Khan too impresses and above all the performances of Boss Puri and Nitin stand apart.

Sheshzan Padamsee is almost null and void in this flick.

Prem Chopra is barely ok.

Out and out a good thought gone bad….especially when you expect lots of fun from this one ; it turns out to be more like Albert and David Maysels 1968 documentary –Salesman.

Rating : 2/5

PAA – Truly redeeming…..an excellent piece of work!

- Savio Zacharia

For years bollywoood has synchronized well with the use of the word ‘maa’ and its stereotypes in all forms. Now, R.Balki returns after ‘Cheeni Kum’ with a big bang using all his creative ad skills to bring forth the ‘Paa’ quotient and indeed he does an excellent job.

‘Paa’ is definitely not a ‘Progeria’ film as many would like to call ‘Taare Zameen Par’ a ‘Dyslexia’ film. ‘Paa’ has roots much deeper and emphasizes the essence of a child’s life and the heart rendering experience of growing up with him irrespective of his physical appearance or disabilities. All the more the movie works real well as it urges men to take up responsibility and celebrate fatherhood in an era where live-in’s and abortions are the ‘IN’ thing.

Not much can be said about the synopsis as it may hamper the excitement of viewing the film. Nevertheless, the movie draws on the line of relationships and depicts a single mother trying to raise her ‘progeria’ affected lad. Fate makes him encounter his dad and things begin to stir up…

To begin with, hats off to Balki for having the guts to even imagine of doing such a film that too with Amitabh playing the role of ‘Auro’. Balki has penned a really simple , heart rendering tale and doesn’t beat around the bush to drive the point home. The movie takes off perfectly with the encounter of Amitabh n Abhishek’s politician character in the very first scene.

Further, Balki’s screenplay fantastically introduces you to ‘Auro’ and his world . Be it the gorilla mannequin on the wall , the Jackie chan posters or furthermore his mom –Vidya and Grandmom (Arundhati Naag) whom he calls “BUM’. Balki pays close attention to the minutest of things, be it the caution note on Auro’s door or the Kichidi element which he further connects very well in the film.

Another commendable element is that Balki brings out the best from his actors. Before I move to the big names , let’s take a close look at some other characters in the film. If Balki connected you to the life of a cancer suffering small girl (Sweeney Khare) in ‘Cheeni Kum’ ; here too he brings out the best of the kids right from the bunch of boy(Auro’s friends )to the little girl running behind Auro.

But the most striking of the lot was the cute little boy with specs-‘vishnu’ played by Pratik. Man, he makes you laugh and think. Starting from his take on algebra , to expressing that he wants to learn dance , to his dialogue about ‘suicide’ ; he puts you in splits.

Now , for obvious reasons ‘Paa’ belongs to ‘Auro’-the new hero for every kid; Mr.Bachchan has proved his versatility once again as he moves from the ‘angry young man’ longing for ‘maa’ in ‘Deewar’ to the cute, cuddly, sensible ‘Auro’ in ‘paa’. Right from the body language to the trademark ‘gorilla ‘move and dialogue delivery , he’s stunning.

Vidya Balan too brings in her best since ‘Parineeta’ and is highly convincing as a loving mom. The mother – son relationship is cute.

Abhiskek also impresses as the politician and since ‘Guru’-this is his best. The scene involving his media encounter and the unveiling of the media barons is an amazing scene. Nevertheless, his politician angle stretches the movie in bits and pieces.

Paresh Rawal doesn’t get much scope but does ok. His dialogue sequence towards the penultimate portion of the film in the hospital seems wasted.

Arundhati Naag is simply fantastic as ‘BUM’ and plays a vital role in establishing the emotional connect.

The editing of the film is sleek and PC Sreeram’s cinematography is splendid. Simple and well captured beautiful shots.

Music by Illayaraja is absolutely soulful especially the theme which stirs you up each time to the tune of the violin and of course ‘Mudi Mudi’. The songs are few and cut short which comes as a blessing.

Out and out , a must watch for every family. Welcome ‘Auro’-the new name for kids to love and his trademark move is sure to be seen in all schools.

Rating: 4/5

- Savio Zacharia

If you thought you’ve seen the last of Himesh Reshammiya with ‘Aap Ka Suroor’ and ‘Karzz’ ; he’s back with ‘Radio’ this week and a few more releases in month’s to come.

Let’s get it straight every Himesh film purely rides on the music quotient; so be clear what you in the theatres for- a concert experience or a movie?

With all due respect, this Himesh flick is highly complicated divided into over 15 chapters with weird titles such as ‘Paranjabi Lassi’, ‘Mutter mein keeda’ , ‘ Denial mode ‘ etc .Each chapter is stamped with the tag ‘IT’S COMPLICATED’ and the overdoing of these chapters give you the constipated feel.

The basic premise of the story is pretty good- An RJ Vivan , known for solving others problems has no solution for his own divorce(with Sonal Sehgal) and is scared of having any further relationships. As he rightly quotes “ judge ka hathoda mere dimaag pe pada”. Until he encounters Shenaaz Treasurywala and her crazy family.

But what fails miserably is the execution! Above all, a bunch of non -performing actors and the biggest glitch being Himesh himself. The lad is pretty bad at dialogues and the close-ups make him look worse.

The leading ladies too hardly express. Sonal Sehgal seems highly eccentric and her shoddy lines such as the one she delivers when drunk at 3am in the morning ,are absolutely lame.

Shenaaz Treasurywala is better off but emphasis is laid only on her close up smiles (which getting annoying after a period) rather than her dialogues.

Major chunks of the film you’re left with wondering what’s going on ? Seeing the trio hang out together , break plates in a restaurant etc…..more than complicated .

The dialogues of the movie area major let down .

The radio station and the characters such as the boss played by Rajesh Khattar in a wheel chair are so unreal.

You may consider shooting Paresh Rawal as his Jhandu Lal jokes literally damge your brain.

Music by Himesh Reshammiya is the only part that works for this film. Indeed there are quite a few songs which the audience is well versed with as the music has released over months ago and has been doing pretty well for itself. ‘Teri meri dosti’ and ‘Rafa Daffa’ are sure to stick with you even as you leave disappointed.

For Himesh , having covered up major portions of the cost through music itself , the theatres, overseas and satellite rights come as bonus.

A complete let down !

DE DHANA DHAN- Where’s the fun?

- Savio Zacharia
Everything seems in place for this flick on paper. Take a look at it , you’ve got the ‘Hera Pheri’ core together after ages. Though the title has nothing to do with Priyan’s superhit flick , Akshay Kumar-Suniel Shetty – Paresh Rawal feature in this one. All the more , Priyan’s favorites –Manoj Joshi , Rajpal Yadav too get their share.

If ‘Hera Pheri’ brought about then ; a rather not so popular ‘Tabu’, this one promises bolllywood’s crème –Katrina Kaif already riding high after her previous.

What’s even better is the fact that Akshay too is no less than any Khan today.

Synopsis: Nothing but a money heist with a mix of characters –Priyan style

So what’s gone wrong with this one??

Aaaaaah…well almost everything!

To start off with Priyan offers us nothing new- the same old confusion and the running around for the money, mixed portions here and there of various other flicks you’ve seen of his.

The Kidnapping , the characters running around , mistaken identities galore but the basic plot is just too loose. The dialogues are terrible and barely evoke laughter. All you hear is just a few characters yelling at each other with the typical hindi film style of ‘Tu tu main main’

What’s more annoying are the songs. Firstly , neither are worth humming and Pritam strikes a complete low with this one and to carry things forward these tracks just emerge about anytime in the film completely killing the pace. The song ‘paisa paisa’ could have been totally done away with as it just emerges at such a crux in the plot.

The screenplay is highly flawed. The first half is something you can totally sleep over as scenes don’t connect well enough and you notice sudden jumps from one to another. The introductions of characters are absolutely lame and such a downer for a Priyan flick.

On the acting front , many would rush to the theatres expecting a lot from Akshay Kumar considering his pairing with Priyan has always been entertaining. This one here is a big letdown. Akshay needs to reinvent his comic sense and style. He just overdoes it in this one with those weird expressions and poor dialogue delivery. What makes it even worse is when he seems to be getting better in the 2nd half, the script locks him up in a cupboard and for over 20 min there’s no sign of him in the film.

Paresh Rawal is another who needs to seriously reinvent his style and selection of movies. Though a Priyan favourite, he’s just a mere cut paste of his other flicks. He doesn’t make you laugh at all and is always found yelling.

Sunil Shetty is the worst of the lot . Right from struggling with the dialogue delivery to lip syncing in a song, he’s just tagging along.

Katrina Kaif just smiles her way out and smiles, no scope at all.

Sameera Reddy , like most of her films you wonder what she’s doing besides wearing some skimpy outfits.

The surprise here is Neha Dhupia who appears in a very shady song but impresses in bits and pieces with her acting skills.

Aditi Govitrikar not bad…

Shakti kapoor , Tinu Anand., Chunkey Pandey …wasted

The real showstoppers for those giggles are in order of priority – Johnny Lever ( he cracks you up big time), Rajpal Yadav ( in a few scenes that he has) and Asrani( in bits).

Out and out , with a very poor 1st half and an abrupt end to the flick , wonder if it’s going to woo the masses. If you do watch this flick, do enjoy the promo of the much awaited ‘Veer’.

Rating – 1.5/5

KURBAAN- ‘Don’t Kurbaan your precious time on this saifeena joke!’
- Savio Zacharia
Rensil D’silva well known for his writing skills with scripts such as AKS and RANG DE BASANTI ,makes his debut as a director. Karan Johar produces the necessary backup and thus the movie speaks of a power packed star cast… with Saif and Kareena already wooing the audiences with their off screen relationships turning steamy on screen.

Well, then this one should be a hit right?

Maybe not! As the audiences have evolved and don’t want to spend 100 bucks just to watch an off-screen couple dance around on screen.

The movie is based on the same old saga of ‘terrorism’ , ‘muslims’ , ‘stereotypes’ , ‘bombings’, ‘9/11’ etc…. absolutely overdone in bollywood.

The movie takes off with Ehsaan (Saif Ali khan) crossing paths with Avantika (Kareena Kapoor) in an attempt to catch and taxi and later on we see the two are apparently professors at the same college getting to know each other. Further on, getting married …… moving off to the US….. bla bla …Kareena Discovering her husband is a terrorist etc. And Riyaaz (Vivek Oberoi) a journalist out to take the whole world on his own without any cop support..hehe.

One of the major flaws lies in the script and indeed the screenplay by Rensil. He fails at bringing forth the seriousness of the issue of terrorism and the movie begins to slide downwards as a complete mockery of the same.

Various sequences in the movie seem highly irrelevant and the dialogues by Anurag Kashyap are just so lame.

Firstly, it such a joke to see two professors in a college go out on a date too soon and make out with each other in the so called staff room. Moreover, Saif’s hairdo changes drastically before and during the date….lack of conitunity. But that’s not the main problem….

Furthermore you wonder why Kareena would step into the attic to witness the terrorists in the first place…such a voyeuristic neighbor she indeed is.

To add on, one of the most lame sequences is when Vivek Oberoi now playing the same role that Neil Nitin played in New York …tries to be a spy amongst the terrorist. He asks Kareena to get a hold of the map (on which the possible station names have been marked out) which is in Saif’s study and what’s the best way for her to get to it…..yup, the same old Bollywood gimmick of seduction … more like another ‘Aaj ki raat, hona hai kya..’…maybe that s the relevance of the title-KURBAAN.

Flaws and loop holes in the script galore ….. a sequence in the film has vivek burst out saying “NO COPS! I’LL HANDLE THEM MYSELF”….haha.. to which the audience burst out ….if he were Rambo then maybe, we could digest it ..especially when the terrorists are planning yet another 9/11.

Above all, the movie hardly puts across Jihad or Islam in an understanding manner and further reinforces the stereotype of Muslims in bollywood.

Only 15 min of the climax is gripping but that too is spoiled by stupid ‘filmy’ sequences of Saif relishing with bullets all over him , yet having the time to engage in some stupid conversation with Kareena who now wants to know his real name…… absolutely lame.

The performances were just as vague as the script and OM puri and Kirron Kher are super annoying…in fact Vivek did get bit here and there yet far from impressive.

The last time these 2 lads were seen together was over ten years ago in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s-‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and what a treat it was! Once again Ajay Devgan (Minus the ‘a’ in his surname) teams up with Salman Khan for a script written by Suresh Nair almost 5 years ago.

Vipul Amrutlal Shah spears the bandwagon with the word ‘London’ proving really lucky for many in his last venture-‘Namastey London’.

Getting back to the film , whats it about? Many perceive that here is Vipul getting an older bunch of actors and trying to deliver yet another ‘ROCK ON’. For those who think that way, let’s get it clear that ‘London Dreams’ is not all about music and the usual band drama. Also let me admit that Vipul has failed terribly to create that aura of a band, or the feeling of rockstars etc and there are indeed many loop holes. But , in the end, the core of the movie has not been lost- the friendship between Manu(Salman) and Arjun (Ajay).
So let’s first get to the loop holes of the film.

Firstly the fact that Arjun runs away from the London airport and still finds himself into the London school of music etc quite easily ,is unconvincing.

The very first performance of Ajay Devgn and how he meets his mates- Ranvijay and Aditya Roy Kapur and further how he gets recognized by the press and the music company is further not convincing.

You also may be wondering what’s that’ Firang’ Drummer doing in and out of the band and what’s Asin actually doing in this band.

Leave all that reasoning aside and also forgive the actors when they try lip syncing to the tunes of Shankar Mahadevan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

Leavin all those flaws behind, London Dreams is the old school style filmy take on ‘Dosti’ aka friendship set against the backdrop of music. Firstly what drives the film is the manner in which Vipul has sketched his characters – Ajay as the obsessive goal oriented lad to whom nothing matters more than achieving one’s dreams and Salman on the other hand as the lad who never really had any goals. And in the midst of this all, What if your dream starts coming true for your best friend?

Vipul with the help of cinematographer -Sejal Shah is able to capture some splendid locales of both London and Punjab. The movie is rich in colour right from the very opening song ‘Tapke Masti’. The music does well for the film and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have fused in a good mix of songs though not their finest.

The apex of the film beyond all those glitches is the supreme performance by Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan followed by the breath taking dialogues by Ritesh Shah in various scenes.

Ajay Devgn unlike ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ carries shades of grey and what a performer indeed. His character takes a transformation from that of a saint to a man burning with jealousy, The scene where he whips himself portrays the obsessiveness of character and his best dialogue sequence comes towards the end , when he reveals his hearts desires during the performance. Amazing!

On the other hand, Salman Khan brings the life, ‘masti’ quotient into the film. After a long
time, one gets to see him in a role that brings out the best from the actor both in terms of humour and delivering those heavy lines.

Throughout the first half you are left laughing by his silly acts specially his airplane encounter. Then all you see is lot more witty ‘Bindaas’ scenes of Salman flirting around making passes at Asin etc. Then comes the final blow when you see Salman shedding tears on hearing Ajay’s obsession for Wembley, Salman then becoming addicted to drugs , beating up the press when they question his friends integrity , battling it out of drugs and the climax ( can’t reveal this one, watch it youself!)
All in all leaving us with some fantastic dialogues “Sitara ek hi hain…aur uski jaga koi aur nahi leh sakta siwai mere praa ko!”

Asin aka Chennai Express(thts wht Salman calls her) is soon to be found in the top league of actresses and here too has some splendid scenes especially with salman. She’s cute and also delivers her lines with conviction.

Rnvijay and Om Puri are quite wasted. But Aditya Roy Kapur impresses.

At the box office, it has ‘HIT’ written all over with the audiences laughing out loud , moist eyed reactions followed by huge claps when the friends hug. This truly is bollywood’s moderns ‘JAI-VEERU’ story.

Now here comes the much awaited Salman flick ‘Wanted’ directed by the so called Micheal Jackson of India –Prabhudeva. If you are expecting this to be a musical hold on right there as Prabhudeva brings forth his Hindi adaptation of tamil flick ‘Pokiri’.

The movie revolves around ‘Radhe’(Salman Khan-in fact that’s the lucky name that won him praises for ‘Tere Naam’ ) a complete goon who would do anything for money and keeps switching parties as the pay cheque rises. In the midst of all the gun shots and crude raw world he exists in , he falls in love with a girl and vice-versa…..will there now be a change of heart?

Well, firstly lets get this clear that ‘wanted’ is strictly for the Indian masses i.e. ‘AAM JANTA’ , intellectuals can keep away from this masala flick. What then keeps this masala flick goin? Being adapted from tamil you will get a feel of a plot highly immersed in bloodshed , gun shots , violence and immense action. ‘Wanted’ is no ‘Jab we met’ and offers very less scope for romance.

ndeed there is a romantic angle to the plot but the whole movie seems to ride entirely on Salman and the action sequences…which are very ‘Tapori ‘indeed ( which actually works in favour of salman and his fans). Salman pulls in his usual funny side with a few dialogues such as the one in the lift and a few other heavy dialogues which one is sure to keep uttering at the end of the movie such as ‘EK BAAR JOH MAINE COMMITMENT KAR DI , TOH MEIN KHUD KI BHI NAHI SUNTA’.

Ayesha Takia , who is almost on her way out of bollywood also impresses as she compliments Salman’s rawness. She delivers her dialogues with ease and does well at emotions bit too (though not the finest of performances).

Mahesh Manjrekar impresses as the bad cop and Vinod Khaana has a few power packed lines.

But above all the movie belongs truly to Salman Khan .Salman looks ripped , fit and intense. His dialogues are heavy indeed and the action is raw and strictly not for the faint hearted. If Ghajini had some disturbing scenes of violence , well this one is loaded with it. Right from banging the goons against the train rod to ramming them across the post on a moving train etc.

The music of the film is not up to the mark but serves the purpose in adapting itself to the ‘tapori’ character of Salman in the film. Just a few songs could have been omitted. ‘Tosse Pyaar Karke’ truly fits the ‘tapori’ bill above all.

The movie also comes with some drawbacks-the screenplay fails to draw transitions between the action and the romance and at times the humour content, moving rapidly across the three. Also the lack of continuity in Salman’s look is a little weird mostly in the songs considering most songs were shot during Salman’s ‘Veer’ preparation. Also the length of the film hampers the final product .

For those , who have been starving to see Salman on screen for a while away since ‘Yuvraaj’ and those ladies who have been eager to see Salman topless in a flick for a while-well, Here comes ‘Wanted’. The last 20 mins are absolutely breathtaking.

Salman returns to such a role more intense than his last two actions flicks-‘Garv’ and ‘Veergati’ both of which were mere duds at the box office. Well, this time around the prospects seem to be better as the film faces a weak competitor and has the weekend plus the ‘Eid’ season to cash upon and considering Salman’s major fan following are not the elite or so but the masses , this one is sure to do well .
So go ahead and watch ‘Wanted’ leaving aside your brain and be entertained by the time pass songs and high volt action and masala.

What’s your Rashee? – Don’t mind the length , Enjoy the performances;Priyanka at her best!

Hmm………this one is a film I’ve found really hard to rate simply cause of many factors…primarly its length. Nevertheless , I guess after ‘Lagaan ‘ and ‘Jodha Akbar’ one would have a clear idea of the length of an Ashu (Ashutosh Gowarikar) film. So, here we are once again for yet another 3hr 20 min odd film.

Well, that shouldn’t discourage you!

The ace filmmaker, this time around tries his hand at something on a much lighter front after all the ‘Deshbhakti’ , ‘Cricket’ , ‘Galloping Horses’ etc …. Ashu tries his hand at adapting the novel ‘Kimball Ravenswood’ by Madhu Rye that has an interesting concept.

So what’s the movie about?

WHAT’S YOUR RAASHEE? is the story of Yogesh Patel [Harman Baweja], a young man who, in his heart, has always wanted a love marriage. Till suddenly he is told that he must find his dream girl within ten days to save his family from utter ruin. Finding the dream girl is tough enough. Finding her in a hurry is even tougher.

His solution is simple; he will meet one girl from each raashee – sun sign, as he feels that is the best way to make sure he finds a suitable wife, while also giving himself twelve chances to fall in love. Two meetings per day gives him six days to meet them, three days to make the final decision and he can get married on the tenth day, or so he thinks.

Well, all in all let me honestly admit that this definitely isn’t a kind of film you would expect from the likes of Ashutosh Gowarikar but who ever said that one can’t experiment or one has to stick to a particular genre of cinema ( take for. Eg. Priyadarshan as much as he was criticized for films such as ‘ Kaalapani ‘, he moved on to the comic capers like ‘Hera Pheri’ and yet again is returning to the genre by winning the national award with a film like ‘Kanchivaram’)

Ashu brings about a sense of freshness in his style firstly by casting one of bollywood’s most under-rated actor ‘Harman Baweja’ in the centre of all the drama. While many have written him off , Ashu brings forth Harman like never before- A TRUE SECOND CHANCE. Harman too lives up to it every bit, unlike ‘LOVE STORY 2050’ where much focus was on Harman’s dancing; this time around traits of a good actor are really showing.

What really interests me is that after casting Hrithik in his last, Ashutosh brings in Harman whom the media has blindly stated as ‘Hrithik’s Duplicate’. Nevertheless, only a good director can bring about the best in an actor by firstly having the ‘FAITH’ and the young lad brings out his individuality to the core .

Watch out for Harman in the sequences involving him and a very possessive father of the bride.

On the other hand , truly the movie belongs to Priyanka and the director works real well on the characterization of 12 different characters . Splendid work!

Right from the introduction of the very first character , you are in splits as the first Priyanka you encounter is snorting right at you! More and More Priyanka’s follow and trust me you are sure to laugh out loud for a few of them or surely fall in love with close to 4 of them ( well, I did!).

Before I get into Priyanka’s talent , I must state firstly that such brilliant characterization is the work of a talented director indeed. Each woman encountered besides looking different , brings about different traits of a women –some ambitious, some frank , some wounded , some rooted to their nation , some in a profession to help the needy etc…..

Priyanka was splendid in the character of the woman who was over-zealous about her business and wanted a contract marriage. The sequences here can give you that big smirk She also impresses as the doctor, the wannabe model , the school girl(my oh my! It’s real hard to recognize her here) , as the eccentric rich gujrati girl and more.

Darshan Jariwala and Anjan Srivastav are apt at expressing the typical Gujrati nature. Dayashankar Pandey has no scope.

Now the major drawback of the film is honestly the length and the 12 odd tracks for almost each ‘Rashee’. Thus, the screenplay starts loosening up a little here and there.
Also the ‘Bhai’ angle to the film could have been done with.

For me the most disappointing part was the ending of the film, but nevertheless watch it as just another time pass David Dhawan sort of film and you won’t be running around to grab Ashutosh by the collar. Also what comes as a saving grace is the Disclaimer at the beginning of the film reiterating that the film in no way endorses the idea of astrology or neither do the makers share the same view.

The music of the film is terrific , in such a long time comes an album with a spice of the real Gujrati touch , the true love songs and the songs blend in with the film track very well. The only problem being they are too many in number..hehe. ‘Pyaari Pyaari ‘ , ‘Jao Na’ , ‘Bhikri Zulfaen’ are truly soulful. Sohail Sen does a very good job and Jaaved saab’s lyrics strike the right chord.

Cinematography isn’t like the Jodhaa Akbar kinds , nevertheless Piyush Shah does well.

Finally , I know many people n fellow journalists are going to debate it with me out and out saying “Saala itni lambhi filam aaj kal kaun dekhta hain? Aaj kal multiplex ka zamaana hai “. To this, the answer may lie even in observing the success of last weeks ‘WANTED’ a slow starter at multiplexes, yet again 3hrs appx with loads of songs . Result- Major Hit ! Specially at Single screens with first week crossing the gross of ‘Khambaqt Ishq’s’ complete run at the box office.

Well , we may not expect the same here but the makers can kind find solace in Boney Kapoor’s recent quote- “Let Aditya Chopra make films for multiplexes. I’m happy reaching out to the masses.”

Rating – 3/5
